This report attempts to clarify some differences by comparing the way English is taught in Bulgaria and in Spain. It is considered that this foreign language has become the most used language in the world, the modern Lingua Franca. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to structure teaching English in the best way, so that acquiring foreign language competence becomes a great advantage for education and society. More specifically, the object of the present research is to study the state of English instruction in Bulgarian primary schools, to determine the quality and adequacy of the teaching methods in comparison with similar cases from Spanish schools. Finally, the report suggests some educational policy implications in several aspects, where reforms are necessary.
