Abstract
This chapter describes Magpie, a technology supporting the interpretation
of web pages. Magpie acts as a complementary knowledge source, which
a reader can call upon to quickly gain access to any background knowledge
relevant to a web resource. Magpie follows a different approach from
that used by the aforementioned annotation technology: it automatically
associates a semantic layer to a web resource, rather than relying
on manual annotations.
