PhD thesis,

Language of the Law in the Aspect of Translation

.
Warszawa, (1977)

Abstract

This essay in applied linguistics and law is addressed to persons trained in linguistics and law. Its subject, the 'language of the law' viewed in the aspect of translation, will be presented in an integrated perspective of linguistics and legal science. łdots In part one we shall show the systemic nature of language and the law and their respective socio-cultural implications. This leads to the statement of the primary objectives of the essay, which are (1) To ascertain intralingually a separate identity of the language of the law, which renders it a legitimate object of study; (2) to establish the principle on which particular elements from the two systems, language and law, can be confronted for translation purposes, and to indicate the factors that ought to be taken into account to this end; (3) to propose a method applicable to interlinguistic and interlegal confrontations for translation purposes. łdots Our ultimate goal is to improve the conditions of communication as regards translation.
