Abstract

We investigate wavelength selection in the 1D noisy stabilized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation and propose a method to find numerically the periodic state selected by the stochastic noise. The method minimizes the dissipation rate as proposed by Onsager and Machlup in 1953 and seems to pick out a unique state independent of initial conditions.
