Abstract
Methodological Design for the development of statistics on the University
Entrance Examination.The main objective of this study is to describe
a new methodological design for the developmentof official statistics
based on the Spanish university entrance examination (Prueba de Acceso
ala Universidad or PAU). This design provides, with foresight towards
the new 2010 PAU, comprehensive information oriented to end-users,
ensuring confidentiality and statistical secrecy. Additionally, it
offers to each educational centre the possibility of comparing exam
results from itsstudents with the results from the whole examined
population and it detects the most significant deviations. As an
application example, data from 4,731 students of 2009 Asturias’ PAU
have been analyzed using R statistical package. In the present article,
data from only 75 students chosen atrandom from the study population
and assigned to a hypothetical center will be used as a sample in
order to describe this new methodology.
