Abstract
Ciro Marcondes Filho (9 September 1948–8 November 2020) was a communication theorist from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP, University of São Paulo), where he was a professor in the journalism department from 1974 until his death. After graduating in social sciences and journalism, he received his doctorate in sociology from Goethe-Universität Frankfurt (Goethe University Frankfurt), and his post-doctorate from Université Grenoble (University of Grenoble). He also translated the work of the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann, and coordinated the UNESCO Chair “José Reis” in Scientific Divulgation since 2006.1
