HEATING OF CONDUCTORS, THEIR .THERMAL ENDURANCE AND INCREASE IN TRANSMISSION LINES CAPACITY

(1980)

Abstract

The heating of conductors of overhead lines is examined for the determination of conductor temperatures depending on current value and weather conditions. Joints are shown to be heated to a much smaller degree than conductors, the thermal endurance of conductors being very high. A statistical analysis has shown that for large areas the set of weather conditions, determining the heating of conductors during ~he period of maximum loads, results in a narrow range of permissible currents. The clearance reduction has been shown to limit maximum currents on line sections whose routes coincide with the wind direction.
