We describe issues in design of visual languages that can provide
a support for software evolution and lessons learned from our experience
in the development of a visual language environment called KLIEG.
In this paper, we put emphasis on general frameworks for visual
syntax, interaction supports and aspect visualization. We also describe
several specific techniques and design decisions of KLIEG
