In recent years several reports have been received
suggesting health effects on substation and power
line workers and genetic effects on the off-spring
of these workers. However, most of the investigations
are retrospective and often suffer from
the short coming that the exposure from periods
far back in time can not be evaluated. Against the
background of the difficulties of establishing a
relationship between exposure and effect in retrospective
studies a ten year prospective epidemiological
study is now planned. In the present
communication a description of the project is
given.
The project is extensive and demanding in terms
of resources and the annual costs for it are hi£h.
Nevertheless this is the best way to get a proper
and true answer to the question äre there any
health risks associated with work on the generation
and distribution of electric power".
