Abstract

The article reports that the United States Department of Justice has decided not to bring charges against the Career Education Corporation, one of the United States' largest operators of for-profit colleges, after three years of investigation. The investigation, which reportedly revolved around allegations of fraud, was triggered by a lawsuit filed by whistle-blowers who seek damages from the company under the federal False Claims Act. The lawsuit required the Justice Department to determine whether the federal government should be involved in the suit.
