It con­tains an anal­y­sis of the fi­nan­cial as­pects of aca­dem­ic car­reers in some Eu­ro­pean coun­tries, with a spe­cial focus on Ger­many and con­cludes that cur­rent book prices are too high for in­di­vid­u­al schol­ars to be af­ford­able. In the re­main­der of the paper I sug­gest a set­ting that can solve the prob­lem while en­sur­ing a high qual­i­ty of pub­lished books.
