This part of Empress deliverable D1.1 “Essentials and Requisites for the management of Evolution” focuses on requirements and incremental validation. The aim of this description is to give an overview of industrial needs and open research issues in the area of requirements and verification & validation, for the partners involved in work package 3 of the Empress project. This description should guide the further activities for work package 3. To structure the work on “requirements and incremental verification & validation”, four topics have been identified: • Requirements engineering – focusing on functional requirements • Requirements engineering – focusing on non functional requirements • Requirements management • Verification and validation For each of these topics the description is further structured in five sections: state-of-the-art, state-of-the-practice, related projects, industry needs, and open research questions.
