Abstract

The purpose of the study series is to monitor the progress of private colleges and universities regularly and to provide reliable and timely information for the use of government officials, educators, donors, students, faculty, and other persons or groups interested in private higher education. It is based on information gathered from a stratified sample 100 accredited four-year institutions representative of 866 colleges and universities. Research universities and autonomous professional schools are not represented. Data and analyses are given for: enrollment and admissions; faculty and other staff; educational program content and quality; operating revenues and expenditures; assets, liabilities, and net worth; and analysis of the condition of individual institutions. Notes on the study methodology are appended. (MSE)
