INVERSE STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS: INTERMEDIATE DISSIPATIVE RANGE

. Abstract Book of the XXIII IUPAP International Conference on Statistical Physics, Genova, Italy, (9-13 July 2007)

Abstract

In the past some attention has been devoted to the inverse structure functions in turbulent flows. These quantities are defined as the moments of distances (or times) at which the velocity exits a given interval. Two regimes has been established, the first one is the dissipative range and the second one is the inertial range. Although the existence of intermediate dissipative range has been proposed, it has not been reported. In this work we show results in two cases, a turbulent jet and a turbulent boundary layer. In both cases an intermediate scaling (between the dissipative and inertial ranges) is observed for high order inverse structure functions. In two cases, exponents are the same.
