Abstract
With the rise of social software and the development of various connected user services, a new wave of user participation in using, creating and organizing online sources based on the idea of collaborative user tagging emerged, namely folksonomies. The first part of this paper analyzes the underlying theoretical aspects of folksonomies: structure and definition, formal models and the pro cess of tagging and the categories and distribution models. The second part of the paper analyzes the advantages and shortcomings of the approach and sets the framework for applying folksonomies as a method of subject ac- cess and indexing for organizing, using and sharing online sources.
