- (private-note)AFPZ mobile, the most important influence on the climate of these islands (past and present). Older and younger islands, past glaciations, high primary production: lots of peat, tundra vegetation, tussock grasses graminoids and herbs dominate. Since late 60s mean annual temperatures over subantarctic islands have increased by up to 1oC. Mean annual precimipation has decreased by up to 500mm on Marion and Kerguelen (s and s). Alien species success and sp richness is strongly influenced by island area and temperature. Interactions between human visitors, invasive species and climate are the greates concern for future conservation. Few investigations of the impact of climate on the indigenous species and systems. Functional groups that aren?t represented there yet appear to have the greatest chance of invasion success. Warmer climate will make it easier for invasive species to invade. Levels of climate change greater perhaps than elsewhere.
