The Paper discusses the main ratings that step-up transfonners and interconnection autotransfonners should have, and stresses the advisability of providing reserve units in nuclear power stations. The need for transfonner units characterized by a high reliability is emphasized. Experimental plants for research on the behaviour of transfonners should be provided well in advance of the introduction of a UHV system as scheduled in the planning studies.
