- (private-note)Refilling under negative pressure. Test solute composition of xylem during refilling. "Henry's law states that the solubility of a gas in water is proportinoal to the partial pressure of the gas species adjacent to the water. Since water in plants is saturated with air at atmospheric pressure, the paradigm requires that the embolism be above atmospheric pressure for the gases to dissolve." (*but ice isn't saturated) assumed that radius of bubble = radius of lumen in intro? Gravity dissipates root pressure at the rate of 10Kpa for every meter in height above the ground. pressure collar high pressure flow and then xylem sap collection. Treatment with KCl/IAA during dehydration/pressure and recovery dehydration caused embolism treated twigs recovered more than untreated twigs Increase in K+ in treated and untreated twigs on recovery, increase in Ca++ in treated twigs only Not enough solutes in xylem to account for refilling under tension
