LE DEVELOPPMENT DE L’AFRIQUE FACE A L’INFLUENCE DE LA CULTURE OCCIDENTALE: UNE LECTURE CRITIQUE DE L’AVENTURE AMBIGUË DE CHEIKH HAMIDOU KANE ET DE L’ETRANGE DESTIN DE WANGRIN D’AMADOU HAMPÂTÉ BÂ

Abstract
It’s a known fact that many Africans have allowed Western influence to infiltrate their daily lives. This contradictory blend of Western and African cultures has caused most African people to have the Samba Diallo syndrome called “hybrid”. The basic elements of African culture which is languages, value system, artefacts, education etc. are being replaced by the Western culture and most indigenous African languages are already going extinct and this cannot be overemphasized. Note that culture is the very essence of our existence, hence this work “the concept of Western influence on African culture; a critical analysis of two postcolonial novels. The strange faith of Wangrin by Amadou Hampate Bà and Ambiguous Adventure by Cheikh Hamidou Kane will serve as matrix for this study. In the strange destiny of Wangrin, the novel is like a detective form and deals with a character who has African cultural foundation before meeting the “goods of bush” in other words colonial administrators, he was also able to navigate through life while the Ambiguous adventure symbolizes an African man who became a man of two worlds who could not hold waters. This research is not aimed at condemning the westernization of the black race but rather to outline its bastardization of our cultural heritage and, proffer a lasting solution to acculturation which is inculturation. In carrying out this research, other related works were consulted and also sources from the internet. The theoretical approaches deemed most appropriate for this research is the post Africanism supported by the socio-history theory. This is so because the novels which form the corpus of this study are African historical novels.
