Typical for this development is also the emergence of standard benchmarks of which TPC-W for transactional B2C systems and ECperf for performance and scalability measurement of application servers are two of the better known examples. In this paper we present an experience report with the ECperf benchmark defined by Sun and discuss performance issues that we observed in our implementation of the benchmark. Some of these issues are related to the specification of the benchmark, for which we made suggestions how to correct them and others are related to database connectivity, locking patterns, and the need for asynchronous processing.
