Abstract
Bdsed on a specific type of composite longrod insulators
with silicone rubber sheds the development
since Cigre-session 1980 (Paper 22 - 11) is presented.
Experience in test stRtions and further
extensive service experience show excellent results.
The solution of the "brittle fracture" phenomenon,
the only unsolved problem of the above mentioned
Paper of the 1980 session, is described in detail
and test methods are proposed.
In addition latest results of investigations regarding
surfnce behaviour of polymeric shed materials,
which is of permanent interest, are discussed. Such
investigations are erosion resistivity, water
absorption by diffusion and water repellency.
Future prospects may be regarded as very positive
particularly for HV-DC and EHV-AC lines as well as
for distribution lines with pollution and/or vandalism
problems.
