.
College Student Journal, 39 (2): 307--15 (2005)

Abstract

The following study evaluated the knowledge, experience and attitudes, that faculty at a private four-year institution have towards students with disabilities. The 208 participants responded to a survey questionnaire. The findings of the study indicated that many of the faculty had little or no contact with this particular student population. Many had no experience working with these students and were less willing to accommodate them. Yet, others indicated a high willingness to accommodate in specific areas (i.e., extended exam time, etc.) In addition, a number of the faculty were unaware of the DSS office's existence and had little knowledge of their services. As a result of this study, the DSS office is implementing a faculty education component to its website and additional dissemination of information as indicated in the results.
