Zusammenfassung

Despite the importance attained by private institutions of higher education as a result of its significant growth, since the 1980 ́s, and the current debate over the commodification higher education services, the study of private higher edu-cation (esp) in México has not been a relevant issue in educa-tional research agendas. This paper presents a summary of the lines of inquiry on this particular field and on its main agents. It concludes that at an international a national level the analysis of esp has been limited compared with the stu-dies on public higher education, and proposes some research topics that would broaden our understanding of higher edu-cation
