Abstract

The article presents a discussion about managing psychiatric emergencies. Psychiatric emergencies are likely to become increasingly common for many reasons, one of which is the number of patients who have known psychiatric illnesses. It is suggested that practice nurses talk to patient regarding their state. A patient who is acutely psychiatrically ill will often have at least a degree of thought disorder. Most patients encountered in emergency situations are too keen to accept treatment as they feel wretched.
