Abstract
The paper describes monitoring of leakage current
on insulators under pollution conditions in
service.
Results of the leakage current monitoring in a few
substations in the FRG are given, together with
the measures against pollution flashovers, chosen
by the users.
It is shown that the application of the leakage
current concept leads to a better knowledge of
the actual insulation strength of the monitored
insulator, so that necessary measures like
greasing or cleaning can be restricted to real
need. Big savings in maintenance time and costs
can be attained, together with a h.igher degree
of reliability and security for transmission
lines and substations against the risk of
pollution flashover.
