Abstract
Even though silicone rubber insulators have excellent antipollution
characteristics, some utilities conduct high water
pressure washing of polymer insulators in transmission lines
We conducted high water pressure washing tests of silicone
rubber insulators in order to investigate the influence of various
washing conditions on the degree of damage of weathersheds
Although damage degree of silicone rubber insulators by
high water pressure washing is influenced by water pressure,
washing duration and distance between the nozzle and the
insulator, fixing tension of the specimen insulator and the
incident angle of jet water stream to the axis of the specimen
insulator also affect the damage of weathersheds
Attention should be paid to the washing conditions in order
to prevent the damage to the weathersheds
