They also have a low slope of the Amax-N relationship. Fast-growing species have high SLA, steep slopes, large differences in slope between species. SLA - N - A relationships similar among biomes but differs with phenology (evergrennness and longevity) and between functional types (forbs, shrubs, trees...) poorer correlations on an area basis than a mass basis. (they say that that's because they're surveying across a huge number of species. Since mine are similar species, Nmass and SLA would be expected to vary inversely and therefore there would be an Nla relationship. That's exactly how it went. Across a wider group of species and genera, they would be expected to vary in parallel) PNUE is more related to leaf structure than actual N level (!!!???)
