The article reports on the decision of HR software company Workstream to merge with the operating holding company of Empagio, which owns venerable payroll application Tesseract. But according to a public filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, prominent Stanford University business professor Jeffrey Pfeffer resigned from Workstream's board of directors on February 9, 2008. The two companies said the combined company will service more than 600 Fortune 2,000 firms, including Wells Fargo, Miller Brewing and United Airlines.
