Abstract
Worldwide, there are significantly fewer women scientists than men.
This is a problem that affects society as a whole, as we need all our brainpower — not just 50 percent of it — to continue making important scientific advances.
So why are women severely underrepresented in the sciences? It seems a combination of social, cultural and financial factors play a role in perpetuating this gender gap — spanning from early education through the higher levels of scientific research.
Here are nine challenges women in science face today.
