Abstract
In this paper the genetic algorithm based method which
we named genetic approximation is used to optimise
floating-point constants of the presumed mathematical
model for surface quality prediction. In addition, a
practical example of the use of genetic approximation
method for predicting surface quality of Monel alloy is
presented. Cutting depth, feeding, and cutting speed
were parameters monitored during cutting process. For
each combination of cutting parameters average
roughness of the machined surface was measured. Two
sets of experimental data were used: first set of 8
experimental data to determine prediction model and
second set of 10 experimental measurements to verify
the model. Research shows that developed model fits to
experimental data.
