Zusammenfassung

The Itaipu Transmission System will transmit 12600 MW over a distance of 900 km. ( 1) Both EHV alternating current (800 kV) and HVDC (± 600 kV) will be utilized. The studies of the :': 600 kV HVDC line design completed in 1980 are discussed. As the Itaipu System will employ HVDC transmission lines for the first time in Brazil, the design studies concentrated on the interaction of the lines with their physical and electro-magnetic environments to de - monstrate that HVDC lines would not cause any great disruption than known and accepted for EHV ac lines. The electro-mechanical design studies, which resulted in differences between the HVDC line designs and EHV ac lines, are summarized. Studies of the influence of electro-magnetic interference, electric fields, corona phenomena, and insulation coordina - tion on the line design are described. Studies of the electrode line design with particular emphasis on insulator string arc conditions are also repor - ted. Final results of the studies are presented in the form of design criteria and a description of the line configuration.
