Numerical solutions of the Euler equations for two-dimensional airfoil hide hide
flows at low Mach numbers are compared with analytical solutions for incompressible potential flow. The Euler solutions were obtained using the computer code ARC2D, which employs the Beam and Warming implicit approximate factorization algorithm in generalized coordinates. Analytical solutions for incompressible potential flow were calculated through Joukowsky (cusped trailing edge) and Karman-Trefftz (finite trailing edge angle) transformations. Effects of free-stream Mach number, artificial dissipation, and grid clustering are presented. At a free-stream Mach number of 0.05, the numerical results obtained using a 249 by 49 grid show excellent agreement with the analytical solutions.
