Abstract

This article introduces a method for calculating vortex induced vibrations (aeolian vibrations) in vertical twin bundles with spacer-dampers. The input variables used for the calculation are the mechanical characteristics of the spacer-dampers as measured in a laboratory, in addition to the mechanical data of the conductors, the tensile forces in the individual conductors and the energy input of the wind. The result or the calculation supplies information on the alternating bending strains at suspension points and clamps of the spacer-dampers. In this way the proposed method offers a solid basis for determining the number and positioning of spacer-dampers for a given bundled transmission line.
