Abstract

A great number of time-consuming work routines are involved in the projecting and preparation of specifications for overhead-line construction. In Vattenfall (the Swedish State Power Board) these have gradually been transferred to automatic data processing (ADP). There is thus at present a system of ADP programmes with the following functions : I. Preparation of numerical topographical models for optimum tower-siting and automatic profileplotting. 2. Optimum tower-siting with regard to topography, foundation conditions and present range of tower and foundation designs. 3. Detailed specification of towers, foundations, cross-anns, stays and insulators with supply of data to programmes 4, 5 and 6. 4. Calculation of stay-lengths. 5. Printing of construction specifications (tower tables). 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Material-sorting and print-out of material-order specifications etc. Cost calculations . Map-drawing and calculation of the area of various evaluation zones. Calculation of wood volumes in forests on the overhead-line route. Calculation of compensation to land-owners and printing of offers of compensation. Line-profile-plotting showing topography, towers and r:onductor curves. In addition to these programmes, the last of which is under development and is expected to be in operation 1974, a number of auxiliary programmes are used for design work. These include programmes for calculation of point locations in all existing types of conductor curves, programmes for analysis of (he numerical topographical model to judge the degree of difficulty, programmes for following up the progress of construction work, and programmes for conductor calculations, tower-dimensioning and calculation of insulation distances. The attached appendix shows the principal process flow between the programmes which are described in more 1 detail in this report. The system can, in principle, be used for all types of portal-tower lines, but, especially for programmes I - 7, is intended for 400 kV with the centrally-stayed type of tower. For•this type of line the system has been in use since 1960. Altogether 2500 km of line have been dealt with.
