Zusammenfassung

Transmission line engineering in the Austrian Alps often is faced with the action of avalanches. Most dangerous are powdery avalanches which are mictures of powdered snow and air masses spreading out at speeds up to 100 m /sec. This contribution refers to practical experience and to the consequences considered for the design of newer lines. Detailed consideration is given to loading assumptions and to a theoretical model propounded by the author for controlling conductor clashing due to the wash of air masses initiated by powdery avalanches. A practical example illustrated by means of figures shows the evolution of an unconventional but economical tower configuration of relatively high security in case of the action of powdery avalanches.
