Financial translation is a field of specialization that plays an important role in the translation market. It requires specialized training due to the subject-matter expertise that it is necessary in the field. Nevertheless, research studies that focus on financial translation and on its learning process are scarce. In this article the results of an empirical study performed with 88 financial translators that work in Spain will be shown in order to obtain data about their training and professional profile, the competences that they consider necessary for the profession, as well as their opinion on training in this area of specialization. This will allow us to obtain data from the profession to subsequently develop training models on financial translation.
