Abstract

This paper discusses the Social Network Analysis (SNA) as a method to be broadly applied in researches in the Information Science (IS) field. This science is, normally, presented as an interdisciplinary filed, but the research lines conducted in Brazil have different relationship with other disciplines, and consequently dissimilar interdisciplinary characteristics. The analysis of the co-authorship network of the professors of the PPGCI/UFMG emphasizes both, the strength of the methodology and the characteristics of the collaboration in the IS. The article gives an overview of the theoretical basis of the SNA, and presents studies about subjects related to the Information Science field that are done applying SNA, mainly the co-authorship network analysis. Finally, the methodological approach of this research and the main results are presented
