It is the perception of ability, more so than the actual ability that plays a critical role in persistence (671). calls for a longitudinal study to build a better persistence model. also discusses how intervention efforts should work on attributional retraining, also given that the first two years of eng curriculum are designed to "weed out" students and make them think it's their lack of ability.
