We present a flat histogram algorithm based on the pruned and enriched Rosenbluth method 1,2. This algorithm incorporates in a straightforward manner microcanonical reweighting techniques, leading to ‘‘flat histogram’’ sampling in the chosen parameter space. As an additional benefit, our algorithm is completely parameter free and, hence, easy to implement. We apply this algorithm to the study of several models of polymers. We discuss the intricate interplay between bulk and surface interactions in the presence of an external pulling force 3-5, discuss intriguing results on the sensitivity of the collapse transition on the details of the chosen lattice model 6-7, and present results for a lattice model with hydrogen-like interactions 8. 1) T.
