Abstract
A number of shared workspace systems allow for jointly constructing conceptual problem representations by means of graphical structures and using direct manipulation. Interestingly, collaboration by means of shared workspaces has mostly been investigated by analysing the verbal interaction that additionally takes place between the participants. By contrast, action-based collaboration analysis focuses on the activity in the shared workspace itself, taking into account especially the operational grounding of group interactions in the context of collaboratively contructed external problem representations. Based in a formal model of activities, relevant and interesting collaborative behaviour is recognized. The advanced process-oriented monitoring of group interactions is intended to enable feedback, overview, indexing, and coaching finctions.
