THE DEVELOPMENT OF WRAP-ON OPTICAL CABLES
FOR USE ON THE EARTHWIRES OF HIGH VOLTAGE POWER LINES

The requirements for a system in which optical cable
is wrapped on the earthwire of live high voltage
overhead power lines are discussed . The design of
suitable cables , cable wrapping machinery and a
remotely controlled motive power unit are described.
The method of installation and the ancillary
equipment and fi ttings are detailed. The range of
applicability of wrapped optical cable is discussed
and installa tions are described.
