Beschreibung

This article describes the iterative matrix algorithm created by Needleman and Wunsch to analyze and compare amino acid sequences. They wanted to create a computer-operable algorithm to replace the visual comparisons used to study proteins at the time. This algorithm proved so useful it is still in use, with some modifications, today, and has inspired other algorithms, such as the Smith-Waterman algorithm, as well.
