Abstract

This is a prf'sentation of thP m'lin d<>sign and construction features of a double circuit line at 132 KV, using new concepts in compactness of supports and in the gf'ometry of the phases. Amongst other things, this makes for much smaller pylons and a much sma 11 er right of way for thf' line. One of industry's main worries nowadays is the degradation of the environment in all its aspects (pollution, deforestation, visual impact, rights of way, etc). This is even more important near big cities. The design and construction of a high-voltage power 1 ine is aggressive to the environment, and the aggression is hard to avoid because the very function of the 1 i ne - to take power from onP p 1 ace to another - means it is not confined to a particular site. The length of the line we shall be talking about here is not excessive (2.338km), but the land through which it must pass is near highly populated urban consumption areas and also near an airport, which has its own rights of W·'Y These factors contributed to the der.ision to minimize the aggression to the ~errain, reduce rights of way and make the line visually pleasant. All this was aimed at dealing with the difficulties which we assumed we would be faced with. We further attempted to include the latest designs in the supports and the configuration and layout of the phases, with rotary crossheads based on composite insulators to give a slimline look.
