Abstract
The article ties the question of the discipline of social work to its academic institutions. Universities of applied sciences (HAW) have historically had worse conditions to participate in discourses on discipline formation and to gain recognition in them. The independent right to award doctorates for HAW creates a formalized basis for the continuation of disciplinary self-assurance in social work.
