. China Digital Times, (May 18, 2008 05:25:46 GMT)

Abstract

Several Chinese residents are compiling a list of school buildings that collapsed during the recent Sichuan earthquake, in an effort to shine a light on any potential wrongdoing by contractors and officials in constructing the buildings. Thousands of school children died in the earthquake, during which nearly 7,000 classrooms collapsed. Many are questioning why so many school buildings went down while government office buildings nearby remained standing. Some netizens started compiling information on collapsed school buildings as well as government buildings and have asked more people to join the effort. Here are names of some of the collapsed schools. You can find the initial list here, here and a similar list here. Juyuan Middle School, Dujiangyan City, Sichuan province; Xiang’e Town Middle School, Dujiangyan City, Sichuan province; Xinjian Elementary School, Dujiangyan City, Sichuan province; Beichuan Middle School, Mianyang City, Sichuan province; Muyu Middle School, Guangyuan City, Sichuan province; Yingxiu Elementary School, Wenchuan City, Sichuan province.
