An Adaptative Process-based EML

. Learning in the Synergy of Multiple Disciplines, Proceedings of the EC-TEL 2009, volume 5794 of Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Berlin/Heidelberg, Springer, (October 2009)

Abstract

Adaptation is a main concern in E-learning. E-learning resources and systems need to be modified and changed to accommodate the particular features and needs of each specific learner and teacher. This paper introduces a solution to support adaptation in the context of Educational Modelling Language (EMLs). EMLs have been conceived as process-based languages to enable the modelling of learning units. Adaptation is specially required in these models as they involve the structure and behaviour of learning units. The solution proposed is based on the principle of separation of concerns and on Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP). It distinguishes the learning unit structure and behaviour from specific concerns that cut across it, creating the final learning experience by weaving the model with some specific aspects.
