Abstract

This document is discussing the consequences for the transmission line routing and design due to icing on conductor and towers. Further the effect on towers due to snow creep, avalanches and snow heaping is discussed and precautions recommended. Maintenance technique during icing periods is given attention. The document gives further an analysis of cost consequenses for the transmission line as a function of the design ice loading. The cost is approximately doubled when the iceload increases from 40 to 120 Newtons per metre.
