Abstract

Background: Nationally 23% women use SBA assistance in Bangladesh (1) and many factors are associated with this low use rate of SBA. With the aim to estimate the magnitude of the use of skilled birth attendant during delivery and the underlying factors responsible for usage of SBA this study was conducted. Method: This study was carried out by primary data analysis based on purposive sampling. Women aged 15-49 giving birth in five years preceding the survey were included. Data analysis was carried out using STATA 13 and MS excel. At 95% confidence interval (CI) the results were calculated. Results: It has been found that 60% births were attended by SBA either at the public or private health facility and others at home. In logistic regression analyses income, parental age, birth order of child, antenatal visit, Tetanus Toxoid vaccines, travel time were the significant determinants of usage of SBA during delivery at 5% level of significance and the main earner of the household, religion were significant at 10% level of significance. Conclusion: To confiscate some misconceptions regarding the formal maternal care raising awareness, increasing doctor’s accountability etc. measures should be taken.
