Аннотация
Fiber-optic sensors are transducers for various physical parameters eg.position,
force, pressure, temperature, velocity, field strengths ...• They encode
the value of the parameter to be measured into a light flux, transmitted
by optical fibers to and from the sensor. For specific applications,
e.g. in medical and industrial control systems, such sensors offer important
advantages of electrical insulation, EMI immunity, and safe operation
in flammable atmospheres. Certain interferometric sensors have also demonstrated
(hydrophone) or promised (magnetometer) very high sensivities,
exceeding those of conventional sensors. The fundamental operating principles
of fiber-optic sensors and basic problems of their accuracy and sensitivity
will be reviewed.
