Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of exchanging the information between the semantic data models, which are based on the DOLCE foundational ontology, and business models expressed in BPEL format. As BPEL is not equipped with the formal semantics, exchanging the information between semantic data models (ontologies) and non-semantic (non-ontological) models needs a certain mechanism trying to keep the semantic relations over the business model execution. In this paper, we explore using the Pi-Calculus as a solution to keep semantics between the foundational ontology and non-ontological resources of business process models. Our aims for this work are three-fold: (i) to supplement business processes with the formal framework for expressing the relationships between semantic and non-semantic business models, (ii) to overcome the gap between non-ontological business resources and ontologies, and (iii) to bridge the gap between workflow-based and semantic approaches.
